Interplanetary Shock (or CME Arrival)
Catalog: M2M_CATALOG
Location: Earth
Event Time: 2023-11-05T08:10Z ( DSCOVR: PLASMAG )
All Detecting Spacecrafts:
DSCOVR: PLASMAG
ACE: SWEPAM
ACE: MAG
Activity ID: 2023-11-05T08:10:00-IPS-001 (version 5)
Quality of ICME Signature: 2 (clear signatures)
Note: Clear ICME arrival signature with the jump in magnetic field from already elevated 14 nT (after arrival a day before) to 25 nT, then gradually increasing to 34 nT, accompanied by rapid rotations of all three magnetic field components and by a jump in solar wind speed from 320 km/s to 430 km/s. There is a corresponding increase in ion density and temperature. Further review of this arrival signature in consultation with Lan Jian at NASA/GSFC suggests that there are multiple flux ropes due to strong B compression and large-scale (in terms of magnitude) magnetic field rotations on 2023-11-05 and 2023-11-06. This complex event may be combined with the arrival of CME: 2023-11-03T05:48Z associated with CME arrival with ID 2023-11-05T11:45:00-IPS-001 in DONKI and an SIR preceding a coronal hole high speed stream detected at DSCOVR around 2023-11-06T11:47Z. Of the 2 candidate CMEs, simulation results of CME: 2023-11-02T03:36Z predicted arrival signature characteristics most similar to the start of this IPS. The arrival of this CME was also detected at STEREO A around 2023-11-05T03:38Z.
